As we’ve mentioned before, The short-run limited release Ledbury Lab collections give us the rare opportunity to experiment. With the Ledbury Workshop on-site and the skills of the best Master Patternmaker in the business, we have the luxury of creating garments we want to wear with best materials we can find.
The inspiration for this month’s release, The Brandywine Western Shirt, came from the iconic classic Western shirt. Featuring distinct details like traditional flap chest pockets, a custom collar, and the classic single-point stylized yoke on the back. The front of the shirt features a slightly curved, lowered front yoke. The shirt gives a nod to authentic western shirt details but we kept it modern by adding buttons to the chest pockets rather than the traditional snaps. The Brandywine is constructed by hand of fine indigo denim sourced from one of our favorite Italian mills, Albiate, located north of Milan.
What you’re left with is a refined riff on the vintage Western shirt you may have thrifted in college. The 100% cotton denim is a true indigo fabric, meaning it will slightly fade over time with wear like your favorite pair of jeans. The heavier-weight denim makes this one the perfect fall layering piece. It can serve as the top layer over one of our flannels or twill plaids and worn similarly to a “shirt jacket.” Or just rock it on its own with a pair of our casual Franklin 5-Pockets. The real daring types can wear our western shirt with their favorite pair of well-worn jeans, but as a rule of thumb, make sure the denim is not the exact same color to avoid the “Canadian Tuxedo” look. Unless you’re Steve McQueen, of course.
As usual, the Brandywine Western Shirt is made 100% by hand in our bespoke Ledbury Workshop in Richmond, VA. We only made 12 units in total, so you’ll have to be a quick draw to score this one in your size!
