We were going through the archives of Nowness.com and stumbled on this brief photo essay of Greenland’s Hotel Arctic. Located to the north of the picturesque town of Ilulissat (a town known for having nearly as many sled dogs as people), Hotel Arctic is the world’s most northerly 4-star hotel. When speaking of his experience at Hotel Arctic, photographer Glen Milner says, “Being greeted by howling huskies gives you a real sense of place, but it’s not until you hit the glass walkway overlooking the bay that you get the full impact of your surroundings.” The landscape of ice is what draws people to Ilulissat and the sea surrounding the town is full of icebergs because of its proximity to the world’s most active glacier – the Sermeq Kujalleq. When searching for a dramatic change of scenery and to bask in the best of what the Arctic has to offer, this appears to be the destination.
Throughout the remainder of the month on our blog, we will be featuring themes of travel, a few of our favorite destinations, the items you should pack while on the road, and internationally inspired content. Tomorrow, we will be launching our December Short Run Shirting Collection lookbook, which was shot at a resort located a bit closer to Richmond than Hotel Arctic, the historic Keswick Hall. We are looking forward to sharing some of our favorite places near and far, and hearing about some of yours.
